I have found that selling items around the house on Ebay is a great way to make extra money. I sell things like women's clothing, children's clothing, children's books, children's hair accessories, costume jewelry, and shoes. Most of these things are items that my children have outgrown or items that we don't use anymore. I've even sold Hull Pottery and Hello Kitty merchandise as a way of making extra money. Here's the best way to make a profit from Ebay.

First, any clothing sold should be clean with no holes, tears or missing buttons. Most people will not buy clothing unless it says it's from a smoke-free household. I even add that we're a pet-free household to ensure there won't be any pet odors on the items I'm selling. I don't sell underwear, bathing suits or bras unless these items are brand new, never worn, and still have tags attached.

Maternity clothing sells pretty easily on Ebay because most women don't like to spend a lot on clothing their only going to wear a few months. Also, maternity clothes are usually still in great condition because they've only been worn for about 6 months out of a 9 month pregnancy, so people are more apt to buy. I chose to put my maternity clothes together in a "lot" and ended up making about $75 on 3 pairs of pants, 3 blouses and a couple of shirts.

Children's clothing sells well on Ebay, too. I've found that mostly name brand clothing like Carters and Gymboree sell the best. I usually sell the clothing one piece at a time, but if it's a matching set, I sell those together. Also, if you have hair accessories or a hat or pair of socks that match, you can put these things together as a lot to make it stand out from the rest of the auctions.

If you are selling Gymboree clothing, it is best to find out the name of the line you are selling. You can do this by searching for other auctions on Ebay. For instance, I had a baby swimsuit that was hot pink with a butterfly on the front. I searched for "Gymboree butterfly bikini" and found that the name of that clothing line is Tropical Paradise. People who are familiar with Gymboree usually have a clothing line in mind that they want to buy. Putting the line name in the auction description will help sell your children's clothes.

Trendy costume jewelry is easy to find and sell on Ebay. Most of the time people want earrings that are brand new and still on the display card from the store. I've found the chandelier earrings sell quite well on Ebay. You can buy these items on the clearance rack at places like Claire's and The Icing where periodically they have sales for 20 pairs of earrings for $10. Buy them for 50 cents each and list the starting bid at 99 cents to $1.99. I usually list my costume earrings at 99 cents each and offer free shipping. I also put this in the auction description. My auctions normally end at $5 or more. With free shipping, this entices people to keep bidding because they won't have to factor the cost of shipping in to the price.

Other things that sell on Ebay are antiques, pottery and glassware. Of course, when it comes to shipping, you should make sure you have plenty of bubble-wrap and other packaging materials to ship the products. Hull pottery is one of my favorites and it sells fast on Ebay. When going to flea markets keep an eye out for colorful pottery with the label "Hull" on the bottom. These items range from approximately $35 to $350 depending on the size and type of Hull Pottery you find or own. Hull sells a book which shows the prices of these items. Also, you can search for Hull on the Internet and find out how much yours is worth.

Most people aren't going to pay their mortgage and monthly bills on selling items on Ebay, but it is a good way to make extra money. It's easy to list and the cost is minimal. Keep in mind that a good way to sell your items is to add a gallery photo for only 35 cents more. Gallery photos make your auction more appeasing. The buyer who is scrolling through many different auctions can just see the gallery photo on the side of your auction description instead of completely opening it to see the photo. It will definitely make a difference in how much you sell your item for and whether or not you even sell your item at all.
